SILVERSTONE

MORE THAN JUST A CIRCUIT

The story of Silverstone as a motor racing destination starts at the end of the Second World War. With no major racetrack surviving the war intact, attention turned to the UK’s abundance of airfields, most of which were now surplus to requirements. RAF Silverstone, home to No. 17 Operational Training Unit for the Wellington Bomber, was identified as the perfect location… located in the heart of England, it was seen as an ideal venue to host National and International motor racing in Britain, and with just 3 months' notice (!), hosted the first British Grand Prix in October 1948.

Since then it has developed into a world-class venue and is home to the British round of every major international race championship, including both the FORMULA 1 British Grand Prix and MotoGP. For more than 70 years Silverstone has carved its mark as a pioneering motorsport venue, creating a powerful heritage around the world.

Today, Silverstone is internationally renowned as the host of world-class events, famed not only for its exciting race calendar, but also for its exhilarating driving experiences, premium corporate entertainment and prestigious conference facilities.

Amongst the exciting future developments, Spring 2019 will see the opening of the Silverstone Experience, an interactive celebration of Silverstone’s past, present and future. The Silverstone Experience will not only showcase its involvement in STEM, but will firmly establish Silverstone as one of the UK’s leading leisure destinations.

The Silverstone licensing programme will focus on apparel, automotive, gaming and toys as the core categories.
